MENTORING WITH STAR


All STAR mentors work in the mental health field. Many have educational creditionals in that field. More important to STAR is that each mentor have the right life experience and basic values.

  • Mentors must easily relate to and empathize with the STAR children.
  • Mentors need strong basic values because STAR Mentoring's strength is teaching the values that lead to success in life.
  • Mentors must be culturally appropriate and live in the child's community for close, frequent contact. In fact, STAR mentors are so close to the children that each child has his mentor's cell phone and home phone numbers and is allowed to call at any time.


All STAR mentors are interviewed and hand picked by STAR's Founder and CEO, Fay Evans. Several times a year Fay holds an informational session to recruit new mentors.

All STAR children enter the program as referrals from the Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF), Connecticut Department of Corrections or any other Social Service Agency.
